Once you are accepted into a program:
- Inform Ms. Banas of your acceptance(s), and if you have been accepted to multiple programs, let her know which one you have chosen
- Pay the required deposit (usually ranging from $300 – $600) directly to the program, and inform Mrs. Banas of how much you have paid. The charge will subsequently be deducted from your Lafayette College semester bill. For more information regarding financial questions, see The Cost of Studying Abroad.
- Everyone going abroad will have to sign a Waiver of Responsibility and submit an Affiliated Off Campus/Study Abroad Authorization Petition (course approval form) – please download the files, complete them (including all required signatures), and return them to Mrs. Banas in 200 Scott Hall. She will secure the signature of the Director of International and Off-Campus Education where required, and will forward copies of the forms to the appropriate offices. Please note that until these forms are submitted the administration will not have you on file as a study abroad applicant, which will cause problems in terms of billing and registration.
- Students going on Lafayette faculty-led programs (Bremen & SLU Engineering in Madrid) will have to fill out the appropriate Medical Forms – please download the files, complete them (including all required signatures), and return them to Mrs. Banas in 200 Scott Hall.
- Submit a Study Abroad Preference Form to Residence Life (for housing when you return)
- Inquire with the host program about the procedure for obtaining a student visa. For some countries no visa is required, but for others the process may be complicated and time-consuming. Be aware that US citizens and non-US students may have different requirements. If you need extra photos or need to be fingerprinted for your visa application, the Office of Public Safety at Lafayette will provide both services free of charge; please contact Jim Meyer at ext. 5330 or meyerj@lafayette.edu for details.
- If you have questions regarding financial aid, contact the Office of Financial Aid at ext. 5055 or financialaid@lafayette.edu.
- If the program requires you to make your own travel arrangements, do so with as much lead-time as possible in order to get the lowest fares.
