The program director’s responsibilities include:
Program participants enroll directly in at least three courses at the host institution and the course taught by the faculty leader. The course taught by the faculty is open but should take advantage of the program’s location.
The Resident Director will receive their normal salary, one course release, and a cost of living adjustment (COLA) based on the Department of State’s per diem for incidental expenses, and will have their approved expenses (transportation, housing, and other expenses as specified by IOCE) covered by the College.
Faculty leaders receive significant support from our in-country partners and are therefore not required to have expertise in the local language in non-English speaking countries.
If you would like to apply for this position, please complete the expression of interest form.
Expressions of interest received by August 1, 2023, will be given priority review. The Off-Campus Studies Committee (in collaboration with the Engineering Council in the cases of Bonn and Madrid) will review applications and make a recommendation to the Provost, who will appoint the Directors.

"We took this picture at the end of a guest lecture in our Introduction to Aging Studies course. Students learned about a non-profit organization, Cycling Without Age, that relies on a network of volunteer bicycle enthusiasts to give frail elders the opportunity year-round to enjoy being a passenger on a bicycle ride, get some fresh air, and feel connected with community members. Our students learned about the genesis, operations, and innovative bicycle design from the two local social entrepreneurs who started this global organization’s chapter in Bonn. It was a treat to have our students connect engineering, aging studies, and Bonn, Germany in this way." - Professor Jamila Bookwala, Psychology
