Call for Expressions of Interest - Resident Directors
The Office of International and Off-Campus Education (IOCE) is now accepting expressions of interest in the positions of Resident Director for our faculty-led programs in fall 2025 and spring 2026:
Program director’s responsibilities include:
- Assistance with program participant recruitment (primarily London and Costa Rica)
- Assistance with program pre-departure meetings (typically two to three held in the semester before departure)
- Teaching one course while abroad (see below for more details)
- Leading/accompanying various cultural activities and excursions
- Serving as the on-site advisor, counselor, and on-site liaison with host and home institutions, etc.
Program participants enroll directly in at least three courses at the host institution and the course taught by the faculty leader. The course taught by the faculty is open but should take advantage of the program’s location.
The Resident Director will receive their normal salary, one course release, and a cost of living adjustment (COLA) based on the Department of State’s per diem for incidental expenses, and will have their approved expenses (transportation, housing, and other expenses as specified by IOCE) covered by the College.
Faculty leaders receive significant support from our in-country partners and are therefore not required to have expertise in the local language in non-English speaking countries.
If you would like to apply for this position, please complete the expression of interest form.
Expressions of interest received by August 1, 2024, will be given priority review. The Off-Campus Studies Committee (in collaboration with the Engineering Council in the cases of Bonn and Madrid) will review applications and make recommendations to the Provost, who will appoint the Directors.

At the end of our Introduction to Aging Studies course, students learned about Cycling Without Age, a nonprofit that relies on volunteers to give frail elders bicycle rides. Our students heard about the genesis and operations from the Bonn chapter's founders. It was a treat for our students to students connect engineering, aging studies, and Bonn.

I benefited from leading a study abroad program as it helped me think about all aspects of being a professor from a different and broader perspective.
