Call for Expressions of Interest

Resident Directors of Semester Abroad Programs

The Office of International and Off-Campus Education (IOCE), on behalf of the Off-Campus Studies Advisory Committee, is now accepting expressions of interest in the positions of Resident Director for our faculty-led programs in fall 2027 and spring 2028:

Program directors’ responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Assistance with program participant recruitment
  • Assistance with program pre-departure meetings (typically 2-3 held in the semester prior to departure)
  • Teaching one course while abroad (see below for more details)
  • Leading/accompanying various cultural activities and excursions
  • Serving as the on-site advisor, counselor, on-site liaison with host and home institutions, etc.
  • Faculty continue their normal advising load during their time abroad. If conditions (e.g., time zone difference) make it impossible to advise effectively, please talk to your department head before departure about having advisees reassigned.

Program participants enroll directly in at least three courses at the host institution and the course taught by the faculty leader for the equivalent of 4 Lafayette credits (15-16 host institution credits). The course taught by the faculty is open but should take advantage of the program’s location and should fulfill at least one CCS requirement. All students on the program are required to take the faculty leader’s course. Therefore, the proposed course should not carry any prerequisites.

The Resident Director will receive his/her normal salary through the College, one course release, and a cost of living adjustment (COLA) based on the Department of State’s per diem for incidental expenses for the host city, and will have his or her approved expenses (transportation, housing, and other expenses as specified by the Office of International and Off-Campus Education) covered by the College.

Knowledge of the local language and culture is helpful but not required. Faculty leaders receive significant support from our in-country partners and are therefore not required to have expertise in the local language in non-English speaking countries.

If you would like to apply for this position, please complete the expression of interest form.

Expressions of interest received by March 31, 2026, will be given priority review. The Off-Campus Studies Committee (in collaboration with the Engineering Council for Bonn and Madrid) will review applications and make recommendations to the Provost, who will appoint the Directors.
